Birds chirping excitedly, moving swiftly and freely in the air. The chirping sound of the birds in consonance with human voices play a rhythmic pattern, enveloping the environ in euphoria. Embracing the long awaited day, she stares into the whiteness of her gown reflecting on her life. She stares admiring the texture of her gown placing her hands on it, moving her hands in a slow motion whilst dwelling in the well of her thoughts. ‘its time to walk down the aisle’ she hears from a distance in the background of her well of thoughts. She adjusts herself quickly, regaining consciousness to all around her. Walking gracefully down the aisle, with each step in her neutral coloured heels taking her further to where her heart lies.
Life had been wonderful to them, turning a disaster into a felicitation. The journey began in a ghastly motor accident. The drive to the business meeting was right on track till it came to a halt by the colliding of vehicles resulting into a major crash. Rushed by an ambulance, a mobile medical aid, one of the victims was pronounced dead leaving the medical team to battle with the lives of the other two victims. At the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), one of the victims had lost so much blood and was on the verge of death. There was need to transfuse blood, her blood group turns out to be the relatively uncommon one (O-) making the quest ardous. They resorted to getting the blood transfused from the other victim whom apparently is an (O-) patient and was not in a critical state.
Hours later, Tade comes out of his shock. He had also suffered minor bruises and fractures. He glances at the ceiling unaware of his environment. Upon knowledge of his surrounding, flashes of the accident illuminate intermittently making him comprehend the incident that had occured which landed him on a hospital bed rather than his supposed meeting. He immediately tried sitting upright realizing he couldn’t move his body, he stayed paralysed on the bed trying to figure a way to call for attention for his voice had failed him.
The accident had been caused by psycological imbalance. Being a professional driver (chauffeur) he had to stick to the professionalism conduct of his job despite hearing the news of his wife’s diagnosis of lung cancer. He was informed by his wife’s sister at Port-Harcort. He had moved from Port-Harcort to Lagos to practice his profession and for a better standard of living for himself and his family. His wife had chosen to stay behind at Port-Harcort since her business revolved round Port-Harcort and she was emotionally attached to the place as she grew up there with her family and his. He would return to Port- Harcort during festive seasons and official leaves to meet his wife and family. They had been married for fifteen (15) years without conceiving. They had tried all they could medically and spiritually but they had been unsuccessful. Few months before the mishap, his wife was stated pregnant. It was a joyful news for the Dicksons. It was indeed deserving of jubilation. Finally, there would be an offspring. The Joy unknown to them, was a short lived one. After several collapses and other illness indicators, she goes for medical check up. The doctors detected an abnormal growth in her lungs which led to her being diagnosed of lung cancer. The beginning of the end of their jubilation. Dickson could not absorb the shock and that led to his demise.
Two weeks later, Tade had fully recuperated and could move his body. He was discharged from the hospital. He ensured he met with his chauffeur’s family to console and compensate for their loss. Mrs Dickson was undergoing both therapeutic cancer care and antenatal. She was always consumed by the loss of her husband and the fact that she would not be able to see their child grow as her life was close to it’s end. She tries getting used to it by making a diary for her son.
Meanwhile, Lola, the other victim of the accident is also recuperating but still hospitalized. After two months, Lola had fully recuperated and living life normally. Once again, her path and Tade’s meet at a Restaurant. He had met her before in the hospital to see how she was fairing after he had been discharged. Seeing her once more made him exchange contact with the promise to keep in touch. After two years of consistently keeping in touch, they found themselves being celebrated at a church in Lagos. Happily smiling at each other hand in hand walking down the aisle after the promise of forever and ever till death do them part.
A new phase of their lives began, gearing them towards having their moments outside the usual confines. They set out to travel to the Eastern part of the Hispaniola Island a Carribean nation called Dominican Republic for their Honeymoon. This adventure which is intended on celebrating their union, turns to hunt them…..
